Some thoughts from Barbara Edmonson at Vision Ministries for whom we are filling Smartie tubes with 20p’s to help bring clean water to the people living in the slums of Kibera, Nairobi.
Peace Realizing the importance of the present and having peace in that moment is so vital to our wellbeing. We strive and struggle about what might never happen and base our feelings on, as a friend of mine puts it, a moving carpet, all of which will only throw us into chaos.
As I write this I am in hospital in Kenya and have been here for two weeks, as you receive Today Counts, I will be back in the UK – not the trip I had envisaged. However, prior to admission God showed a scripture to me, Isaiah 26:3, ‘You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You,’
No moving carpet – just a firm and stable Rock on whom to rely and trust.
The peace of God that passes all understanding – provides protection, defies logic, quiets the soul and mind, shifting our focus from self and circumstances to God – I can truly say that for not one minute have I been concerned during my stay, reason for being in hospital. Why should I / we worry when God is above every circumstance and every situation we face.
He has opened up opportunities to me for prayer, for looking at my surroundings, which are very pleasant, with monkeys, baboons and the occasional camel outside my window, write some poems (not a road I have been down before); allowed me the privilege of resting in His ever-loving arms, whilst restoring me spirit, soul and body.
My trip is cut short but there is blessing, there is fulfilment, there is victory in the presence of God and the moment to walk in that is TODAY.
Have a really blessed day, week, month.
Love
