A road to peace
Lord give us the ability, the wisdom to understand what You want / need us to understand and the strength and faith to trust You in what we do not or cannot understand.
The disciples did not always understand what was going on in the days before Jesus went to the cross. I guess some of them were still expecting a Messiah that would defeat Rome. A short-term vision, immediate problem solved solution. Yes, Jesus could have commanded 12 legions of angels to save Him from the Cross – but He didn’t, because He knew the road He was to travel, He was in for the long-haul, long-term vision lived out each moment of every day to redeem humanity.
The time we spend here on earth is vitally important even if it is only a tiny blip in the light of eternity. Our lives matter to Jesus – hence the Cross.
We focus so much on tomorrow and yes there is a place for that. But Today is the day that Counts. Every minute of Today is the time we have to make a choice for life and to choose Today whom we will serve.
Today is where and when we decide as to who we are and who and what we are going to trust and believe in, whether we understand or not.
We cannot live tomorrow Today, we can only live Today. We live Today, go to bed, wake up and it is a new Today.
This is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it. Everyday is a gift from God to be valued, enjoyed and lived to the full. When we focus on ‘tomorrow’ we lose the meaning and true value of Today.
Is it just when we get a little older, we realise the importance of Today – of this moment in time – that will never be replaced. We need to squeeze every bit of life out of every day that we are blessed with.
Yes, go ahead and look at the world through rose coloured specs – because there is something beautiful to experience in every single day, even on the days when things don’t always go according to our plans and viewpoints. We are told to look on whatsoever is good and lovely and to set our minds on things above. Stop and smell the roses.
Revel in the peace that God has ordained for us, revel in the truth that He has a plan and purpose for our lives, revel in the truth that He is always with us to sustain us. Revel in Today when it is not a bed of roses, because Today, this day, is the day He has made and even in our struggles we have an opportunity to lean on and rest in Him, trusting that He will always be with us and always make a way through.
Have a blessed Today and make a decision to live it to the full, regardless. ‘Behold, now is the favourable time, behold, now is the day of salvation.’ 2 Cor 6:2.
